Of all the news that the enemies of Israel and Turkey don't want to hear is that dialogue between the two friends has resumed. This is a great move and much needed as Israel and Turkey are historical friends. The animosity between Israel and Turkey especially in the last month has only benefitted the likes of HAMAS and extremist religious and nationalist forces within Israel, Turkey and the Arab world. As reported in the Israeli media and worldwide sources, Israeli trade minister Benjamin Ben-Eliazer of the Labour Party held talks with Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in Zürich yesterday in the first meeting between officials of the two countries since the Flotilla attack on the 31st May. Both the BBC and Ha'aretz reported that these secret talks were made under pressure from Obama's administration, but at least it's a start.
One thing poigniant is that vile Israeli foreign minister, the sleazy Avigdor Lieberman was not informed of this meeting, leading to statements of loss of trust with coalition partner leader Netanyahu. This is obviously a sign that most, if not all, of the heavy-handedness and non-apologetic stubbornness of the current right-wing Israeli government can be blamed on the Lieberman's crazy, Russian-speaking Israeli nationalists of the Israel Beiteinu Party. Lieberman and his party have displayed an attitude and behaviour more reminiscent of an unsophisticated Russian peasant rather than following the proud academic, artistic and humanistic traditions of Russian Jewry. During their control of the foreign ministry, Lieberman and Israel Beitenu has seen Israel's already tainted public image stoop to ever lower levels thanks to some disastrous moves mostly involving close friend Turkey. It has been this black-and-white worldview that many Russians, both Orthodox and Jewish, have that see all Muslims as evil, with no accommodation even for Muslims who have been historically kind to Jews (as is the case with the Turks), or as is the case in contemporary Russia, failure to see that Muslims from former USSR countries and within Russia are so culturally Russian, that has produced farcical and deadly acts tarnishing Israel and Russia. Such primitive displays of blindness is costing everyone dearly. What needs to be done is that Lieberman and his party must leave the coalition, for Israel's sake.
